The mission of the Building Inspectorís Department is to issue permits and inspect work being done within Dickenson County. Dickenson County has adopted the Virginia Statewide Building Code, which defines this departmentís authority and responsibilities.
Building Inspectors inspect the structural quality and general safety of buildings. They are also responsible for examining the construction, alteration, or repair of buildings, highways and streets, sewer and water systems, dams, bridges, and other structures to ensure compliance with building codes and ordinances, zoning regulations, and contract specifications. Building codes and standards are the primary means by which building construction is regulated in the United States for the health and safety of the general public.
In addition, the Building Department is also responsible for Erosion and Sediment Control as defined by the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation.
