The office of the Sheriff began in Colonial times. Originally, the Sheriff was also the Election Supervisor and Tax Collector of the County, as well as the Chief Law Enforcement Officer. The Sheriff is a constitutional officer who is elected by the voters to serve a four year term.

Sheriff Bobby G. Hammons was elected in 2000. Sheriff Hammons is “Working with you to keep Dickenson County safe and drug-free.”
